What Types Of Eco Friendly Cabinets Are Available

by Dale Peck

Cabinets have a very prominent role in the appearance and value of several rooms in the home. They are present in the kitchen, bathrooms and many other areas. Having a nice looking cabinet will give you a good feeling for and in that room. Making sure you have eco friendly cabinets wherever you can will also give you the peace of mind where it comes to environmental concerns.

Using virgin, just cut and prepared wood to make cabinets is what a lot of people like. The beauty and natural look appeals to them. Others want to be able to reuse and recycle in order to make their home more Eco friendly. It does not have to be regular wood as the only real purpose of a cabinet is to store things and keep them out of sight.

There are many old cabinets that have been removed from homes being rebuilt. These can be found in construction companies storage areas. They will need to be sanded down and recovered, however, as far as an environmental impact, they are a good step. You will not need to have new ones if you can find one of these older ones that will do the job.

True recycling means taking things that were used for something else and re purposing them for your needs. The left over wood pieces from other constructions can be formed into particle board. This has become more and more popular as the price of wood has gone up. The ability to create this wood from left overs means not as much cutting of trees meaning greener construction.

Bamboo has become more popular in the past several decades. This is a strong wood that grows very fast. A full sized tree is mature within only eight to ten years and the entire tree does not have to be cut down. The workers will trim off branches and can also plant additional trees while they are there. This bamboo tree grows in many areas around the globe and is available for all types of construction.

Bamboo is also much stronger than other wood items. It has a very fine grain pattern and is resistant to moisture and other weather conditions. The colors are anything from a very light tone to almost black. There are any number of different looks that can be accomplished with this renewable resource.

Others are quite familiar with metal covered shelving. These can be constructed from left over material used from other applications. The strength of these shelving units should be evident. They can be painted any color that is needed and will be built with screws or bolts and nuts. This makes a stronger than usual cabinet that will last longer than other units and the savings of wood and other material will be the ultimate in recycling and reusing material.

The old cabinets you have can be recovered or new ones can be created from recycled materials. Particle board, metal or Bamboo are a few of these innovative resources and open a lot of options. The eco friendly cabinets you want and need can be found with a little research and that journey can be fun, informative and productive.
