Car Shopping Advice For Newbies

by Elena Stone

There are people who are great with cars and know the exact value of each make and model. There are also many people who don't feel comfortable when it's time to make a vehicle decision. If you are one of the people in the second category, then this is the perfect article for you!

Do not allow the salesperson to convince you to buy a car that you cannot realistically afford. A lot of people end up purchasing sports cars because they fell for the dealer's slick comments about how good they look driving it. Remember that the salesman wants his commission!

If you are considering buying a vehicle from a private seller and garrett turbo supplier, you should first ask your mechanic to go over it. If the person doesn't want you to do that, you need to think of that as a warning. It is possible that there are issues that a layman cannot detect that will have an impact on the vehicle's value. Do not purchase a car without knowing about possible mechanical problems.

Think about getting your car loan from your bank. Much of the delay that arises during car shopping results from the credit checks and financing hassles that take place. If you have your loan pre-arranged, the whole process will be easier.

Never disclose the trade-in, what you have down, or what you want until you have a price ironed out. These should come off the base price. Negotiating first can get you a better price, and then you can discuss these little "extras."

When you are car shopping, you need to make sure it has plenty of the most important safety features. Select a vehicle with anti-lock brakes, if possible. Air bags are also essential. You are needing to use this vehicle a lot, so safety is important.

Always do a test drive of the car you want before buying it. It isn't about the make or model but about the specifics of the car you may buy. There might be a subtle difference or a mechanical issue that might elude you if you hadn't driven it.

Go to the auto show to check out makes and models on offer. These shows provide you with an opportunity to research and compare many vehicles side-by-side. It will also allow you to speak to lots of people who know a great deal about cars. You should be able to walk out of an auto show with a good idea of the cars you'd like to look into further.

You should go shopping for a car towards the last part of the month. Most car dealerships have monthly quotas they must reach. At month's end, quotas may not have been met yet, and under-performing salesmen will be eager to negotiate.

Be sure to always test drive a car before buying it. While you may know which car you want, a test is imperative. There is no substitute for direct and personal testing. Maybe you don't like the ride, or you may find the car isn't built in a way your body can adapt to.

Loving the car you buy is possible on any budget. The chances of that happening are greater when you walk into a dealership fully prepared. Remember these tips as you set out to find your next vehicle. You may be surprised with the kinds of deals that are negotiated in showrooms.
