How To Use A Sun Tan Lotion

How To Use A Sun Tan Lotion

by Haywood Hunter

In order to understand better, is important to know that the definition of a sun tan lotion which refers to all types of oils or lotions that are worn while in sun. The main function of the sun tan lotion is to minimize the chances of getting a sun burn, allowing at the same time a gradually darken of the skin. The usage of a sun tan product does not preclude the possibility of burning the skin.

A sun tan lotion is in reality a sunscreen lotion having the SPF less than 15. This product was created to offer a certain level of protection in front of the sun, and to intensify the tan. It is very important to remember that the sun tan lotion does not offer the maximum protection from UVA and UVB rays. Therefore it is not recommended to be used by kids or people having lighter skin.

The highest protection in front if UVA and UVB rays can be obtained only from a sunscreen product. This will be able to offer a high protection level and even to act as sun block. These products will protect not only the surface, but the lower levels of the epidermis as well. But when a high protection product is used, the tanning will be almost absent.

A sun tan lotion can range the protection level from SPF 5 to 8. Sometimes these can contain no sunscreen ingredient, but only an active ingredient to tan the skin faster. In general the active ingredient used to accelerate the tanning process is the L-Tyrosine. This substance is known to promote the production of melanin and to increase the blood flow to the skin.

The tan accelerator will help to obtain more rapidly a bronzed skin than in the situation when a higher sunscreen protection is used. This can be possible due to the increasing of the blood flow to the top layers of the skin. Unlike a sunless tanning lotion, a sun tan lotion will offer a minimum protection of the skin, in order to avoid the sun burn.

A sun tan lotion can include many substances and ingredients, from which we can name the green tea, the copper, tea oil or other oils. Some can contain hempseed oil, which is a rich moisturizing. If the skin is hydrated properly before and when exposed to sun, the result will be a uniform and healthy bronze.

One of the purposes of the products from this category is the moisturizing of the skin. This is because the sun exposure can dehydrate the skin, and therefore this intervention is necessary to keep the skin healthy. The moisturizing ingredients are in general similar with the ones presented in a regular sun tan lotion, but with the tendency to eliminate the alcohol in them.

Even if a sun tan lotion can help to obtain faster a smooth tanned skin, it is not recommended to be used in case of a longer sun exposure. This is because the low SPF protection level will not be able to protect from sun burn. Therefore the usage of a proper sun tan lotion will reduce the probability of skin damage.
