People with borderline personality disorder really find it difficult to cope on a daily basis. Those who are affected badly may struggle with jobs as well as personal relationships. Some of them go to psychotherapy, but often the compassion and solutions that this therapist are not enough. This is where DBT in NYC can be beneficial.

It is important to find the right type of therapist, based on your personality and what you are going through. Often people are happy talking to someone who is more general in their approach because they are compassionate and caring. However, this is not always effective, because one needs to do more than talk about the problem.

For borderline patients, it can interfere with their lives on a day to day basis. It can ruin their chances of having a job. It can also cause havoc in relationships because anything can set them off. One does not become Buddhist during this time, but this is definitely a helpful technique. It can help you prepare for the day and you will find that you are able to relax a lot more during this time.

Someone with suicidal thoughts, for example will often have negative thoughts and will have to turn to something that helps them, such as meditation or music. A drug addict can also be helped in this way when they are tempted. They learn to think twice before reaching out. It is a similar approach to cognitive behavior therapy, but it is more specialized.

It is not a Buddhist practice, but some of the techniques that are followed can be very useful, especially when you look at someone who has a drug addiction, for example. They will benefit from following a strict routine and starting the day feeling less stressed. There may be temptations during the day, but there will be certain things that they have learned which will definitely be helpful.

It is also based on the cognitive behavioral method, where one will use the approach, focusing on negative thoughts and transforming these into something that is more realistic and even positive. This also takes time, but for these patients it is also the best way forward because of how they have been affected in the past. They may have the mentality that they are not good enough or they have to act in a certain way. This is where this method is also extremely useful.
