Looking For Ohio University Apartments

Looking For Ohio University Apartments

by Elizabeth Kelly

In most cases when a student decides to attend a university it will involve leaving home and finding a place to live near to their place of study. A large number of universities have block accommodation on site but this is often oversubscribed. When trying to find Ohio university apartments there is a little homework to be done first.

The first thing to calculate is what your budget is and whether it is going to be affordable. A 1 bedroom apartment in Athens, OH will cost approximately 600 dollars per month which includes some basic appliances and furniture. A 3 bed will come in at around 1500 dollars but bear in mind that utility bills will be charged according to usage.

One of the best places to start your search for somewhere to live is at your university. Most will have advertising boards displaying details of accommodation that is available for students to rent. It is also worth spending some time chatting to friends and fellow students to see if they can assist you in your search and answer any questions you may have. Spending some time browsing the web is also a great place to find properties in the area.

Many students find it difficult to manage money when away from home for the first time and will take multiple jobs to pay for their accommodation. A good way to reduce your costs is to share with other students who attend your university. This is a great way to get your own place and it also means you are not footing the total cost of rent and other bills.

Taking on a tenancy is a big commitment and you should take some time to think about what other furniture you may need. A lot of the apartments are partly furnished so may require additional items to make them homely. Another thing to be aware of is that you will need to pay a deposit on most properties so this needs to be factored in to your budget.

Some of the bigger student villages that offer apartments will also have other amenities on site to benefit students. Communal study areas with internet access, small libraries and fitness rooms may be available and be included in your monthly rent. Extra facilities which have to be paid for are also offered and these may include small supermarkets, diners and bars.

Another plus point of many sites is the location and easy access to the university and surrounding area. Many accommodation sites are within walking distance so this takes away the need for buses or taxis and will save those precious dollars. Some universities will provide free buses to certain parts of town so it is worth finding out when you are looking for a place to stay.

One of the other important things to consider is the length of time you are going to be in the property. Most owners and letting companies will want a 6 or 12 month agreement signed. Sometimes longer tenancies are offered and this can be a good move financially as discounts may be available for long term tenants.
