Home Remedies For Dental Stains

Home Remedies For Dental Stains

by Harry Izzo

If you find yourself hiding your teeth even after hearing a hilarious joke, then you might want to check into a remedy for your stained teeth. You can easily go to a dentist to have stains removed in a few short minutes, because he has quick solutions for off-colored teeth. If you want a home remedy there are several available to you if you are willing to wait longer for the results.

Stains on the teeth appear a lot for people who smoke and don't clean afterwards like they should. If you use a toothbrush and toothpaste twice a day you can take care of most smoking stains. Just like eating you should brush after every cigarette. If this is not convenient for you then at least rinse out your mouth with some water.

Fruits, especially citrus fruits, have many cleansing properties. They stimulate the mouth to produce saliva and this holds stains at bay and keeps your teeth looking white. Hopefully you like to eat oranges and lemons. Keep plenty on hand for this purpose. Citrus fruit is loaded with vitamins C and this helps ward off gingivitis.

Strawberries and apples also are invaluable. Biting down into an apple keeps the surface of your teeth looking white. Strawberries also can be helpful if you munch them into paste and brush your teeth with them. Afterwards be sure to use real toothpaste to finish the job.

Other homemade pastes are made from hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. Baking soda is a good alternative to toothpaste. The tiny grains in baking soda are abrasive and can rid your mouth of smoke stains. Just don't do it too vigorously, because you do not want to damage your tooth enamel.

Eating dairy is a good source of calcium. Calcium is important for strengthening bones. Teeth are bones and calcium helps to make them strong. To protect your teeth from smoke stains eat plenty of dairy products like milk and cheese.

These methods are not quick fixes. They take a while to take effect, especially if you are a chain smoker. Logically the best route is to quit smoking altogether. Not only will this improve the appearance of your teeth, it will help you live longer as well.
