Create The Garden Of Your Dreams With This Useful Information

Many of us would love to have a garden to tend to and to look at, but our lives are simply too busy. Growing a garden can give you a great sense of pride, not to mention that it can save you money and help you to get healthy. Here are some ways on how to grow an organic garden that you'll be proud of.

Knowing the layout of your yard and what kind of soil you have can greatly improve your gardening experience. By knowing this, you can figure out what seeds will work with your current yard or if you need to create a different environment around your planting preferences. Different plants require different nutrients, so plan accordingly.

When removing and replanting perennials, it is important to replenish the soil as well. If you remove a large number of perennials, and then replant them without adding additional compost and soil, the bed will be lower, reducing drainage and air circulation. Also, the compost will replace nutrients that have been used up by previous growing seasons.

For gardeners in colder climates who want to get their plants started in the outdoor garden a little early, use plastic milk jugs for mini-greenhouses. Cut the bottom off of a milk jug and place over the plant, pushing the jug into the ground enough to keep it in place. Remove the milk jug cap during sunny, but still somewhat chilly days to allow for some air circulation and replace the cap at night to keep the warmth in. When the days are a bit warmer, remove the jug during the day, only replacing it at night, and slowly let your plant acclimate to the weather.

Fall is a great time of the year to plant a fall vegetable garden. The mild temperature of autumn is fantastic for cultivating fast-growing, cool-season vegetables such as spinach, radishes and lettuce. Growing an autumn garden does require some planning since you need to harvest your salad crop before the first frost. By looking on the seed packet, you will find out how long it takes for your plant to be mature enough to harvest. Since plants grow more slowly in the shortened days of fall, add two weeks to the time listed on the seed packet. If the total number of days is 45, make sure you plant your fall crop at least several days before the time that the first day of frost typically occurs in your locale.

Follow the above suggestions to help you with your organic garden. Think of the benefits you get by gardening the natural way. Maybe nutrition is your primary concern or perhaps you are looking for a way to cut cost. Whatever the reason, enjoy taking a bite out of that ripe, juicy watermelon or a fresh, crisp carrot!
