Steps For DIY Dryer Vent Cleaning Oak Brook IL

If an appliance in the house does not work well, a lot of loss is suffered. One loses money. Energy is lost. Not performing dryer vent cleaning Oak Brook IL may even cause a house fire. A less severe consequence is perhaps damage to the machine or low performance. Not to mention very gross. The mere act of clearing lint could help save a lot.

The first step of cleaning is locating the ducts. Right from the machine to the outer part of the system where hot air is expelled. Try and find a plastic capping on the lower ground along the wall. This is the outer end of ducts. Then find where it starts. The back of your dryer will usually be connected to the duct that connects to the outside.

The second step is to disconnect it from the duct. Unplug it from the socket obviously. Then look for clamps or whatever connections to the wall. Disconnect that then move the machine a little bit for enough working space. Be very careful when using a gas machine. The gas system can be disturbed and cause leakage. This is very dangerous. If worried, have a professional come in and take care of this.

There are kits sold for this specific exercise. Some kits allow one to spin the brush inside the duct. If this is not a capability just screw the brush to a power drill. There is a question on from which end to start. Now, one can start from the inside towards the outside but then there would be an issue with clean up. If one starts from the outside and push the debris in, it will be easier to sweep it up. However, to each his own.

A gas machine is a big reason to contact a professional. One might also be wary of their capabilities at the back of the machine. The instructions on the manual would be pretty clear. However, if one does not feel confident a professional is the best bet. Clearing should be done annually, at the very least. One should, however, be on the lookout for signs of build up constantly.

One of the biggest signs that the duct requires proper moping up is the performance of the equipment. One may notice that it is taking longer for the dryer to finish on a load. Or maybe the machine shuts off on its own before it is done with the load. This means that there is reduced airflow. One might also notice a light on. However, do not wait for the light. There could be extensive damage done way before the light deigns to switch on.

Another good sign is if the heat is not being expelled through the louvered capping. This is easy enough to ascertain. Just check if the lappers are moving. Look at how strongly they are moving. From this one can determine if the hot air is only being partly expelled or fully. The lint screen could also be a contributor to blockage. It should be cleaned as often as possible so the debris is not transferred to the duct.

One may note that the machine is making a lot of noise and vibrating while at it then find the issue. It could be a mechanical problem of course. Have that checked out. If every possible reason is ruled out then the only thing that remains is a dirty duct.
