One would probably be familiar with karate by watching some famous martial arts films like the karate kid or bloodsport. Now this ancient art actually has a very rich and long history that started in the Okinawa region of Japan and has become one of the most popular of all martial arts in the world. So for those interested to know, here is a brief history of karate fayetteville nc.

Now the main inspiration for this fighting art would be none other than the ancient Chinese fighting styles that originated from Shaolin Kung Fu. Now Kung Fu was introduced to the Ryukyu Islands when the Chinese migrated to Okinawa in order to share cultures and art. During the Ming dynasty, karate really flourished because of the sharing of these different styles from the Chinese martial artists.

Of course after the Okinawans developed their style, King Sho Shin decided to ban all weapons so that no one would be a threat to him. The villagers who at that time, would often be robbed by bandits or pirates, did not want to be defenseless. So what they did is that they further developed their hand to hand combat skills so that they would not need weapons.

Sometime during this time period, many Okinawans were actually sent to China to study their political structure as well as their culture. During this time, some of the Okinawan students also studied the Chinese martial arts systems such as the White Crane style and others. Naturally they brought it back to their homeland and further developed their art trying to cover all of the aspects that were deemed useless.

Of course this Okinawan art found its way into the capital of Japan and eventually became popular in the entire country. Now at that time, Gichin Funakoshi developed a centralized style known as the Shotokan style in which he taught to students. He was also the one person who was responsible for spreading this ancient art to the capital of Japan.

He helped make a ranking system wherein the students would be taught lessons based on what rank they were. The ranks were represented by different colors of belts with the white belt being the lowest and the black belt being the highest. Of course he also popularized the use of a Gi which is the white uniform of a karateka.

In 1957, a different style which became as Kyokushin emerged which happened to be a fusion of the Shotokan variation along with the other small styles that came out. Now this is the style that is often practiced by the people today. Until now there are a lot of people who practice it in order to learn to fight in full contact.

Now in fayetteville, NC, karate is extremely popular among the people there. Because of the spread of famous martial arts movies, people became more aware of this fighting art and wanted to learn more about it. In this city, many people have taken a big interest in learning this very ancient art.
