4 Tips For Planning Your Maui Destination Wedding

4 Tips For Planning Your Maui Destination Wedding

by Ella Hemmings

While there are few places on earth that are more ideal for a wedding than Maui, you might be worried about the process of planning a wedding far from home. However, this is your special day and if you wish to enjoy it in Hawaii, the following tips can help you plan this special occasion.

1. Begin With The Budget

No matter where you decide to marry, you have to think about the budget first. It might at first seem surprising that a Maui destination wedding can be affordable, but typically fewer people are invited or attend destination events, so that cuts costs by quite a bit. Yes, you have to pay for airline tickets and hotel rooms, but most people typically pay tens of thousands of dollars just for a reception at home. You might be able to cut that cost in half by inviting just a few people to your Maui wedding.

2. Give Plenty Of Notice

Setting the date should be your next step after setting a budget. With a Maui wedding, it is imperative that you provide any guests with plenty of advance notice. Unlike the typical at-home event that just lasts one day, people will stay for several days in Maui, which means there is a lot to plan. People have to ask for time off from work, and they have to buy plane tickets and find a hotel room. Some people will need to arrange for child care or a pet sitter. All of this takes time, so be sure to give guests several months' notice. While the weather is great all year in Maui, there are high-season months, such as December through March. It might be better to book your wedding in September, October or November, when there are fewer crowds and potentially cheaper prices on airfare and accommodations.

3. Hire Your Wedding Planner

As soon as you set your set your date and your budget, hire a Maui wedding planner. Unless you lived for several years in Maui, you really don't know where to find the best wedding vendors. It's hard to select florists, find a minister, hire a photographer and handle all of the other details when you are thousands of miles away, and a Maui wedding planner is a lifesaver.

The staff at Love Maui Weddings can plan any size of custom wedding, but they also have quite a few romantic wedding packages to consider. There are romantic elopement packages for couples who wish for a private, intimate wedding. There are also simple beach wedding packages and larger packages for couples with more guests. Choosing a package can make the whole planning process easier and you can always add on a few special extras to personalize your event.

4. Don't Register For Gifts

Wedding gifts are a lot of fun, both to give and receive, but since your guests are traveling so far, consider their presence as the only gift that truly is needed. For one thing, your guests are paying for airfare and accommodations, and it's not easy to bring wedding gifts to a destination wedding. Nor is it easy for the newly married couple to bring gifts back to the mainland after a wedding. Of course, some guests will insist on giving you something special, so encourage them to get a gift card for an amazing Maui restaurant or even donating to your favorite charity.
