The Best Film Styles To Learn About

The Best Film Styles To Learn About

by Rob Sutter

Film is easily one of the most extensive forms of media out there and there are so many different styles to take into account as well. Each of them possessing certain features different from one another, it's hard to deny that they have the ability to capture the attention of anyone. That being said, what style should you stick with if you want to create the best possible film? If you ask me, it is worth learning about them by enrolling in one of the best art schools in California.

The best campuses with art majors can promote a litany of styles and one of the more visually unique is film noir. Many people seem to think that all it has going for it is black and white but there is more than the color scheme that makes it so unique. The movies, at least in this style, are usually crime dramas, which were especially popular during the 1940's and 50's. If this sounds like a style that is up your alley, it is worth getting started with a classic entitled, "The Big Sleep," which was released in 1946.

It isn't like this particular style died out after the 50's, though, since there are modern examples to consider. Known as neo-noir, it takes aspects from film noir and modernizes them in order to grant visual elements that weren't presented a number of decades ago. For moviegoers, this is ideal for both fans of film noir who would like to see upgrades or less experienced viewers who will most likely see their first new black-and-white movie. If you'd like a good example rooted in this style, 2005's "Sin City" is a good start.

In my opinion, there is a great level of challenge to consider when talking about silent films. These filmmakers have to be smart with the way that they give the details, since the actors themselves also have to be gifted in terms of physical acting without the use of sound. If you want to enjoy one of these movies, it is up to you to keep your eye on the smaller details as well as the larger ones. There are many classic and modern examples to consider, going from "Wings" all the way to "The Artist."

It's clear that there are many different styles of film and I'd like to think that the greatest schools involved in art can bring them to the forefront. It is vital that you stick to one style, at least, and learn as much as you can about it so that your projects can come together nicely. After all, a filmmaker cannot be shy when it comes to showcasing their movie to the masses. Only with patience and hard work can said movie prove to be engaging.
