Make Your Transfer Painless With A Dulles Reagan Shuttle

Make Your Transfer Painless With A Dulles Reagan Shuttle

by Myrtle Cash

If you're traveling by airplane and you have a stopover in Washington DC, there is a chance that you may have to transfer from one of the city's airports to another in order to catch your connecting flight. Taking a taxi is easy and convenient but is also quite expensive. A cheaper alternative is to take a Dulles Reagan shuttle and then share the cost with fellow travelers.

The largest and busiest airport in the area of Washington DC is Washington Dulles International Airport. It is located about 26 miles from the city, in Virginia. On average, 1,000 to 1,200 people pass through this airport on their way to and from other destinations, many of which are international.

Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport is much smaller. Most flights that come through here are domestic although there are also flights to and from a very small number of international destinations, like Toronto and Bermuda. The airport is across the Potomac River from DC.

The distance between the two airports is about 30 miles. Theoretically, it should take about half an hour to drive this distance. Heavy traffic at peak hour can however cause the traveling time to be substantially longer. When you book your flights, be sure to make provision for the time it will take to get to the next airport. Don't forget that you'll also have to factor in the time you'll need to get through airport security and that flights usually close an hour before departure time.

If for some reason you're stuck at Dulles airport, you don't have to be bored. Within a couple of miles from the terminal you'll find attractions like the National Air and Space Museum for things aeronautical and Frying Pan Park for a look at rural life in the 1930s. You may also head for the nearby golf course to get the blood pumping again before your next flight.

A great airport to be stuck at for a few hours is Reagan, since it's close enough to DC to enjoy some of the city's most famous attractions. The White House is about 12 minutes away, for instance. The National Mall is even closer. Here you'll find the Lincoln Memorial, several museums and war memorials like the poignant Korean War Veterans Memorial. Cross the river back into Arlington County and you're right at the Arlington National Cemetery, where John F. Kennedy was buried.

It's very easy to reach the area's attractions from the airport. A taxi or rented bike can get you to your destination in minutes. Alternatively, take the train. There is a station at the terminal building and one at Arlington National Cemetery. The nearest station to the National Mall is only a short walk away from that part's many famous attractions.

Several companies offer Dulles Reagan shuttle services. Simply look online if you want to pre-book your trip. Alternatively, wait until you land and then arrange your transportation to your connecting flight.
