Why Your Home Needs An Electric Fireplace

Why Your Home Needs An Electric Fireplace

by Hedrick Lepsch

Fireplaces have been such a common part of homes that people have forgotten all the potential dangers they pose. Burning wood inside a residence is a dangerous act. You have to have a screen in front of your fireplace that's tall and sturdy enough to keep out any possible embers. You need to make sure that the vent is open leading up through the chimney. A closed vent could create all sorts of smoke inside the house and send out burning material that could ignite certain parts of your home. This is why you should call a Salt Lake City furnace repair company to come out and install an electronic fireplace. The advantages of having an electronic fireplace instead of its wood burning alternative are clear.

One of the best things you can do in the winter to conserve energy is to set your thermostat to a low temperature at which you are still comfortable. Keeping it at about 68 degrees when you are awake and lowering it when you go to sleep is a great tool for efficiency. With a programmable thermostat you can adjust the temperature of your home automatically.

Electric heaters use off-peak electricity to heat up high thermal capacity bricks inside the heater and the heat is released throughout the day. Electric storage heaters have little control over the release of heat and if you end up expending all of the heat you will need to pay for peak-rate electricity in order to top off the heater. If you don't end up expending all the heat this could be a cost-efficient solution. A benefit of electricity is that it is easier to budget as you can spread your payments. The average cost of for a household using electricity is $1,315. Electricity is still created through the burning of fossil fuels but as more green applications are used electricity becomes a greener energy option.

Saving Time and Torment

You should also check your ducts for leaks and clean your heat registers. IF these registers are currently blocked by furniture or other items, you should remove those items to increase efficiency. Be careful to only use your exhaust fans when they are necessary so you can avoid wasting money and heat, by throwing it literally out of your house.

Coal used to popular in the past decades but its use has fallen with modern central although it is still used in solid fuel stoves usually used in living rooms. Though coal is very difficult to feed into a boiler there are gravity feeding systems for your boiler. Coal is also very dirty and has the highest emissions making it the least green option of those discussed.

Even though many wood burning fireplaces have screens around them, they still aren't completely safe from small children who are intent on getting into them. You would be surprised at how much strength and speed a small child can exhibit when they want something that you don't want them to have. They will keep coming until they get to where they want to go, even if it means they will get hurt in the process. You will still have to watch your children when they're around your electronic fireplace. The glass plate that's covering the fire gets incredibly hot in a short amount of time. Some units have feature built-in that keeps it cool, even if you have been operating it for an extended period.
