Ways On Understanding Surfboard Leash

by Carol Martin

Anytime you go out surfing, it is paramount that you have a surfboard tether on. This will come in handy if the board gets lost in the water at any given time, Retrieving it will just be pulling the leash. On the other hand, when you are not wearing one, then you will have to swim for a very long while before you can get it back. Keep reading to know more about the surfboard leash.

Having a tether on your leg is just one surfing etiquette that you should always have. One point is that, if you get knocked off the boat, you can avoid inflicting injuries on your fellow mates if they come across the board. When you have no tether the sheet can cause injuries to your fellow surfers and that is no surfing etiquette.

Well, having the legging on can help you avoid some of the embarrassing moments. Take this for instance, if you are surfing and there is a crowd of people who are watching and the board is off, then you cannot trace it. This is something that you would avoid in front of your fans. Make sure the lead is one and it will take you just seconds to pull it back.

On another scope wearing a lead can bring with it some advantages. One of them is that it can save a life. When you go out in the water, anything can happen that can put you in danger. For example, if you knocked off the boat and there are waves all-over, it may be hard to swim and you require help to get back to the surface. The lead may just come in handy and make sure that avoid a disaster.

Another benefit is the part where you are exhausted and need a rest. If you are not the Olympic type of a swimmer, each time you fall off, you will have to swim and this can be very tiring. On this side of things having a tether on means that you can pull the sheet and lie on it. This way you can buy time for the big wave.

Another case scenario that you would want to avoid is the case where the panel is knocked off and you were swimming close to the rocks. This means that if you have no lead on, then the panel may come across the rocks and if the waves are big enough, they may just knock down the panel and destroy it. The follow up may be the repairs or even a new board purchase. Avoid all this and get a legging for the panel.

Other questions that are frequently asked by surfers is the right size and length of the tether. Well, this all depends on the size of your boat. If it is short, the tether should be short and also the vice versa.

Finally, if you are an experienced surfer, you only require a tether that is just around 6 inches more than the length of the sheet. Also, big waves require a thicker tether and also small waves thinner leashes. Make sure you get these facts correct.
