A type of pain that can be debilitating is that which affects that neck and shoulders. It is able to prevent one working or undertaking simple activities for daily living. In order for the exhalation to be extended, it is advisable to speak quietly before counting to 10. The drill gets repeated until one runs out of air. There should never be forceful pushing out of air.

For one to let go of the tension in the muscles, it must be felt first. You will be required to place your palm at the back of the neck before tightening the neck muscles. This is done by jutting the chin forwards. You will need to hold for two seconds before returning the head to its normal position.

There will need to be focus on muscles which have just been tightened before the back of the head is lifted off the shoulders. When this is being done, more attention is paid to tight muscles until they release. It is a process that is repeatedly daily, morning and evening, until one gets relief.

There is use of simple techniques such as massage, heat therapy and stretching exercises. For individuals suffering from tense shoulder muscles, there might be pain when massage is done. If the tension loosened using gentle heat prior to massage, pain will be eased.

The most important thing to remember is that when looking to ease pain in areas such as shoulders and the neck, it is treatment that will be ongoing and one must strive to keep muscles loose. Pains can be eased on a permanent basis using exercises, massage and stretching. A combination of methods can be used.
