Systematic Steps On Performing Mold Removal In Michigan

Systematic Steps On Performing Mold Removal In Michigan

by Kevin Weiss

Molds are microorganisms, which are categorized as fungi. There are many different types of molds and they normally grow on decaying matter and soil. They are important because they degrade plant matter in the environment. They can however be harmful if they thrive in your house. If you happen to find molds in your home, you should hire a professional who carries out mold removal in Michigan so that you can avoid potential adverse reactions towards it.

When exposed to molds, people can suffer from respiratory infections, skin rashes, sinus infections, allergies and asthma. In extreme cases, exposure to molds can be fatal. Molds can start growing in your home or business property if there is excessive moisture or humidity for a long period. This problem can be caused by sudden water releases such as a large spill or a burst pipe. It can also occur due to a leaking roof, leaking plumbing or a flooded or wet basement.

Most homeowners worry that their insurance policy will not cover the cost of removing molds. The reason for this is that homeowners insurance provides coverage for certain kinds of water damage only. Standard policies do not cover water damage that occurs because of negligence. For example, if a home has a leaking downspout that is spilling water into the property and it is not rectified, an insurance policy will not pay for the damage caused by molds.

If a certain type of water related accident like a burst pipe caused your property to flood, the cost of mold removal can be covered by your policy. Before filing a claim, it is important to read your insurance policy to see what is covered and what is not. After this, you should inform your insurer about the damage and be prepared to answer various questions about the problem.

The insurance firm will investigate your claim shortly after receiving your written notice. It may also ask you for more information. The company will either accept or reject your claim. If it agrees to pay your claim, it may pay it within five business days. If it rejects your claim, the company will explain the reason for doing so in writing.

If a mold infestation covers a small area, such as less than 10 feet squared, the homeowner can remove it by cleansing the area. Prior to cleaning the area, a person should wear protective gear like goggles, a respirator and gloves. If the moldy surface is hard, property owners can scrub off the molds with water and detergent or multipurpose cleaners.

Once you are through, you should dry the surface thoroughly. If you have removed molds from a porous material, it is advisable to seal the material in a plastic bag prior to disposing it. Once you have cleaned the area, you should revisit the site regularly and look for signs of additional damage or new growth of molds.

If molds cover a large area, it is essential to contact a licensed mold removal contractor to remove them. He or she will use industrial equipment and cleaning supplies to kill and eradicate mold from your home. After removing the fungus, the professional will treat the affected area to prevent future growth.
