Kings Cup For The Trained Drinker

Kings Cup For The Trained Drinker

by Irina Kowalski

If you've ever been to a party, then you've probably played the Kings Cup drinking game. Otherwise, you may have played Circle of Death, which is the same game. Rules for this game vary from group to group, and hundreds of variations are available. Players will notice that the core principles remain the same, though. In each variation, you can't lay without an empty cup, beer, playing cards face-down around the cup, and some friends. The game tends to run clockwise as each player draws a card. Drinking rules are associated with each card based upon number or face. When a given card is drawn, players have to follow the Kings drinking game rules. Here's a guide to what each card means in basic Kings rules drinking games:

The Ace Known as waterfall, the player that drew the card must begin drinking. Everyone follows suit, but a person cannot stop until the person next to them has stopped. This continues on until the last player can stop drinking. For this card, the goal is drinking a little too much to force the next person to keep going.

Two "Two Means You" The player that draws the card chooses another player. A chosen player then takes a drink. However, numerous variations on this particular card exist.

Four: Share the beer with a four by downing two drinks and making someone else take two drinks.

Three: The drawing player takes three drinks as "three means me."

Five "Five Means Guys" The men need to drink on this card.

Seven: Throw your hands up and make sure everyone else does, too. The last person to follow through must drink.

Seven "Point to Heaven" A drawing player throws their hands into the sky, and the last player to follow along takes a drink.

Eight "Eight Means Date" The drawing player chooses a partner to take a drink with them every time the situation comes up.

10: Draw a 10 and create a new rule for the Kings drinking game. It can be anything, even an obscure rule, but everyone must follow the rule. After someone else draws a 10, a new rule can be created. The old rule can either be canceled or kept.

Nine: Rhyming time! The drawing player must quickly think of a word and the person to their left has to, in a reasonable amount of time, find a word that rhymes with the drawing player's word. The rhyme continues around the circle until someone can no longer find a rhyming word that has not already been said. They must take a drink.

Jack "Never Have I Ever" Based upon house rules, players hold up a number of fingers. The group then plays "Never Have I Ever" until a player loses all of their fingers. From there, that player takes a drink. Some groups might continue until one person still has fingers.

King: Pull one of the first three Kings, and you'll add some beer into the King's Cup. However, drawing the final King results in that player drinking their entire beer and everything in the King's Cup.

King The first three players to pull a king add their drink to the King's Cup. For better or worse, the fourth player to pull a king winds up chugging the entire King's cup.

Kings rules drinking games are often quite varied among groups. Therefore, Kings drinking game rules are often modified from their original state. Players negotiate the rules before the game starts, which makes Kings drinking game quite unique. Perhaps the only thing that remains the same is that every card pulled leads to someone getting a little more inebriated.
